Hello, I'm Kandis. Back in 2018, I was trying to think of a name for my business, and while I kept thinking about all the different “facets” of my own fitness journey, my mind kept reminding me of a diamond. For the six years I was in college, I worked in the diamond department at a local but global jewelry manufacturer- Stuller, Inc. Here I filled diamond orders, matched diamonds under magnification, and trained new employees, as well as visitors. The more I learned about diamonds, the more similarities I began to discover between their journey and ours…
Diamonds, as most of us know, start out as pure carbon, one of the most common elements on earth, and are subjected to extreme heat and pressure- a rather hostile, or at best, uncomfortable environment- while they undergo a process of gradual transformation into the hardest natural material in the world, difficult to destroy except by itself or another diamond. And despite its flaws, it can be further refined by a Master jeweler using other diamonds on weaknesses into something exceptional- a brilliantly polished piece of work that now possesses proportioned, symmetrical, fine-cut facets that
enable it to absorb and reflect light.
Ironically, humans are also composed of carbon. We also start out pure in a sense, then life happens to us- we’re often exposed to discomfort and pressure. We can turn hard and be destroyed by ourselves or others. Or, despite our flaws, by the same means as a diamond, we can be transformed and then further refined, enabling us to really shine. Britannica Dictionary defines a Diamond in the Rough as “something that is in poor condition, but that is likely to become valuable with appropriate care or attention.”
We as humans tend to think of health and fitness in regards to just the PHYSICAL facet of it (nutrition, training, body composition, biometrics, check-ups)… However,
real transformation is multi-dimensional, and true health and fitness is multi-faceted. There’s also:
The MENTAL facet:
Our overall mindset, discipline, will, quality of input and output…
The EMOTIONAL facet:
Motivation, inspiration, our feelings and perception of others’ feelings…
The SPIRITUAL facet:
Prayer, meditation…
The SOCIAL facet:
The quality of our interactions with others, our support network…
The ENVIRONMENTAL facet:
What you surround yourself with in regards to the people, sights, sounds, & ideas you allow to affect the other facets…
…And they’re all meant to shine.
